The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, is on a visit to the Portuguese Republic at the invitation of her counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, with whom she participated in an official ceremony and made joint press statements. The head of the state emphasized that there is a lot of potential for cooperation between our countries, and we are committed to exploring it.
“This is the first official visit of a head of state from the Republic of Moldova to Portugal and marks a new stage in bilateral relations. Our economies are already interconnected. The wine industry, a source of pride for Moldova, could not exist as we know it without Portuguese corks. Twenty companies with Portuguese capital are already present in Moldova. Tomorrow, in discussions with the private sector, I will invite more investors to expand into Moldova,” said Maia Sandu.
The President also mentioned that the warm bilateral relationship is also thanks to the Moldovan community settled in Portugal.
Furthermore, the head of state pointed out that as we progress on the path to joining the European Union, we draw inspiration from the Portuguese, who have strengthened their democracy and developed their economy as a member of the EU.
