(VIDEO) Romania Ready to Help Moldova This Winter. Cristian-Leon Turcanu: There Are Certain Plans

Romania is ready to help the Republic of Moldova if the energy crisis becomes inevitable. The assurance comes from Romania’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Cristian-Leon Turcanu, asked by NordNews. The Romanian official stated that ”if this energy crisis occurs, it will happen because of the Russian Federation.”

”Right now, we are not talking about an energy crisis; we are talking about a situation where the Government in Chisinau is preparing for the eventuality of an energy crisis. (…)

The solutions to overcome such a situation have been sought and identified by the authorities in Chisinau in cooperation and dialogue with the authorities in Bucharest with European institutions. When we talk about support in such a situation, there are two types of support: one provided bilaterally by the Romanian Government and the other that could be offered by the EU, by the institutions in Brussels. This situation has been analyzed very carefully in Bucharest.”

”There are certain plans, scenarios, and measures we could take depending on the scenarios that will arise. As you know, during the 2022 energy crisis, Romania was very prompt and ensured the supply that Moldova needed at that time,” said Cristian-Leon Turcanu.

In the end, the diplomat reiterated his message: ”If the situation arises, the authorities in Bucharest are ready to support the Republic of Moldova, primarily the citizens on this side of the Prut River.”

It is worth noting that, starting December 16, 2024, the Republic of Moldova entered a state of emergency for 60 days due to the situation in the energy sector. In his speech delivered in Parliament, the Prime Minister explained that this is necessary to protect citizens and manage the imminent risks related to the cessation of natural gas supplies in the Transnistrian region by the Russian Federation.

Meanwhile, the Government has launched the campaign “Save energy – pay less.”
