(VIDEO) 10th operational meeting of the EU Security HUB: large-scale IT systems in justice and home affairs

28 May 2024. Chisinau hosted the 10th operational meeting of the EU Security HUB, an event with a significant theme focusing on large-scale IT systems in justice and home affairs. The event brought together senior officials and security experts from the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, including the Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, and the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Janis Mazeiks, who came with an opening speech.

The Minister of Interior Adrian Efros stressed the importance of the event: “If until now the Republic of Moldova has aligned itself in the field of legislative harmonization in step with the large-scale IT systems of the EU, now we already have EU Lisa specialists present in our country, and this on the one hand means an even greater rapprochement of our country with the EU, and on the other hand shows the trust given by the European agencies to the authorities of our country.”

The Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Janis Mazeiks, said, “To streamline the implementation of EU policies in justice and home affairs, eu-LISA, the European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security, and Justice, has set up and manages the IT systems. Thanks to the proper functioning of the systems managed by EU-LISA, EU citizens can travel freely in all EU Member States without compromising Europe’s security. In the context of Moldova’s status as an EU candidate country, the European Union will provide Moldova with the necessary support, including the best IT solutions integration in justice and home affairs.”

This operational meeting was a great opportunity for the Republic of Moldova to discuss and partner with European experts on large-scale IT systems integration and optimization. These systems are fundamental for strengthening internal security and efficient the Republic of Moldova border management.

During the meeting, the Republic of Moldova presented the state of play of its large-scale IT systems and related infrastructure, discussing expectations and challenges in integration with European systems. They also addressed biometric identity management and critical IT and communication infrastructure resilience.

The Ministry of Home Affairs thanked all participants for their contribution to the success of this meeting. It reaffirmed its commitment to work together to ensure a strong regional security belt.
