Republic of Moldova’s Olympic Committee Receives Official Invitation to Paris Olympics

The National Olympic and Sports Committee of the Republic of Moldova has received the official invitation to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris. So far, only four athletes have qualified for the competition scheduled for next year.

NICOLAE JURAVSCHI, President of the Olympic and Sports Committee, Republic of Moldova: “At every edition, whether it’s the summer or winter one, the Olympic Committee receives the invitation to participate. It’s clear that we have accepted it, and there can be no other discussion.”

The official invitation is a tradition and a protocol element at the Olympic Games. The relevant bodies of all countries receive this symbolic document, signed by the President of the International Committee, Thomas Bach, almost a year before the start of the grand event. Archer Dan Olaru, canoeist Serghei Tarnovschi, Daniela Cociu, and Măria Olăraşu are the athletes from the Republic of Moldova who have already secured their qualification for the Paris Olympics.

MARIA OLÄ‚RAÅžU, canoeist: “We are going with extremely high motivation. We are going to prepare intensively for the Olympics to achieve a better result.” Many other athletes are currently striving to meet the participation criteria for the Olympic Games. Among them are judoka Denis Vieru and weightlifter Marin Robu. Both have competed at the 2021 Tokyo edition, so they already have the experience needed to compete for an Olympic medal.

DENIS VIERU, judoka: “It’s not just about qualifying. Everyone wants a medal. That’s what we live for, dream of, and work for.”

Until then, high-performance athletes who are currently in the Republic of Moldova will participate in Olympic ECOFest. The event will include various activities, including tree planting and the organization of several sports competitions.

NICOLAE JURAVSCHI, President of the Olympic and Sports Committee, Republic of Moldova: “These events are organized to popularize and encourage more people to participate in sports events. Now, it will be organized as part of the European Week of Sport.”

The eighth edition of Olympic ECOFest will take place on Saturday in Valea Morilor Park in Chișinău.
