The Technical-Criminalistic and Judicial Expertise Center of the General Police Inspectorate received a donation of equipment for the technical-explosive unit. The event was attended by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Andrei Cecoltan, the Chief of the General Police Inspectorate, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, Kent D. Logsdon, and the employees of the Center.
According to representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the equipment will be used by the Technical-Criminalistic and Judicial Expertise Center to develop research, defusing, and safe transport skills for explosive substances and products for deactivation in secure locations. It is essential for improving work safety and protecting team members from the effects of explosions.
According to the State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Moldovan sappers have had thousands of interventions. They have continuously responded to false bomb threats in the capital and across the country.
“They have checked vast territories to eliminate the dangers posed by Soviet-origin rocket debris that endangered the population, defused booby traps, rocket warheads, and carried out controlled detonations. (…) The equipment donated today is essential for improving work safety and protecting team members from the effects of explosions, as well as for ‘clean,’ as we say, intervention in sensitive areas where security risks to citizens are high,” added Andrei Cecoltan.

In turn, the Chief of the General Police Inspectorate, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, mentioned that recent challenges in the country have shown that, in addition to providing safety to citizens, law enforcement officers should also be protected due to the risks they face.
“The constant support from the U.S. Embassy to the National Police significantly contributes to strengthening professional capacities, and the variety of areas in which the embassy has expressed its willingness to support us in 2023 – 2024 in CyberCrime, Cyber Security, and community policing confirms its role as a strategic partner in ensuring a safe community climate,” concluded Viorel Cernăuțeanu, Chief of the General Police Inspectorate.
The total value of the equipment is $360,000. It’s noteworthy that the donation was made by the U.S. Department of State – the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
