Oleg Serebrian: There is no agreement with Kiev regarding a military operation on the left of the Dniester

It is Ukraine’s sovereign decision to deploy troops where it believes there are risks to its security. This is what the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian, declares. According to the official, the placement of Ukrainian troops near the Transnistrian segment of the border of the Republic of Moldova does not mean an agreement between Chisinau and Kiev regarding a possible attack on the Transnistrian region, notes ipn.md.

Recently, there have been several messages from the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding the preparation of Ukraine to attack the Transnistrian region, with Kiev mobilizing its forces near the Transnistrian segment of the border. Moreover, Moscow diplomacy announced that any attack on the Transnistrian region would be perceived as an attack on the Russian Federation. The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian, assures that there is no agreement with Kiev regarding a military operation to the left of the Dniester.

“It is Ukraine’s sovereign right to deploy troops where it deems necessary or where it believes there would be a danger. But this does not mean that Ukraine is preparing a military action or that there is an agreement between Chisinau and Kiev to launch a military operation in the Transnistrian region. It is an absurdity. At Cocieri, at Molovata Noua I was asked by people about this. There the degree of alarm is higher because people have vivid memories of what happened in 1992. People have many questions about the so-called military settlement of this conflict. Once again, I’m convinced of how powerful the rumors are on the left side of the Dniester,” said Oleg Serebrian in the “Points of Reflection” show on Vocea Bessarabiei.

The deputy prime minister reiterated that the population, the political and the economic elite from Tiraspol do not want the region’s involvement in the war. The official mentioned that Chisinau insists on the demilitarization of the separatist region and the peaceful resolution of the conflict, exclusively through diplomacy and dialogue.

“Regarding the withdrawal of troops, Chisinau’s position has not undergone any change. There is a decision made in Istanbul, a decision taken by Russia related to ammunition and military presence in the Transnistrian region. I don’t know why the fact that we mention this position raises questions. The position of Chisinau was constant, regardless of the successive governments, more vocal or more subdued, the message was the same, that the Transnistrian region must be demilitarized. Demilitarization is the first step in the solution package for the Transnistrian conflict”, said the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration.

Recently, the head of the press center of the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, Natalia Gumeniuk, confirmed that Ukraine has placed an “adequate” number of troops along the Transnistrian border to prevent a possible attack by Russian troops.
